You Spoke. We Listened. We Promise:

Master Plan and Zoning:

  •  Protect“ Single Family” zoning by restoring it to the Master Plan.
  • Place limits on the construction of “Big Foot“ houses and downtown skyscrapers.
  • Return to current city zoning and Federal ADA parking requirements in high-rise buildings.

Affordable Housing:

  • Preserve affordable homes by limiting their replacements with McMansions and Big Foots.
  • Provide public and private incentives to renovate existing smaller homes.
  • Study and quantify existing rental stock and vacancies: explore ways to assist landlords in improving apartments to blend in with and complement adjacent Single Family neighborhoods.
  • Support home ownership in every age group so that residents can build equity, instead of paying rent to the already wealthy.
  • Work to reduce additional admin fees and pare down city expenditures to reduce taxes so that seniors can age in place in their own affordable homes.

Roads:

  • Maintain properly sized roads to accommodate emergency vehicles and peak traffic flow — no more obstructive medians, road narrowing or road diets.
  • Maintain and repave roads.

Fiscal accountability:

  • Balance the budget.
  • Reduce city debt and taxes.

Public Safety:

  • Add more police officers instead of more Royal Oak City Hall administrators.

Seniors:

  • Work with SMART to expand their on-demand 7-days-a-week FLEX transportation service in Royal Oak. (Currently, the Senior Center bus only operates five days a week from 9AM to 3:30PM – so if a senior wants to go to the 7:30PM City Commission meeting and they don’t drive, for example, there’s no way for them to get there.)
  • Prioritize making downtown parking accessible for all.
  • Establish better means of communication for seniors through multiple channels such as direct mail, social media and email in order for them to get current news.

Downtown:

  • Help downtown businesses recover from the parking debacle: Provide parking passes to residents to promote a “return to downtown”.

Environment and Sustainability:

  • Protect and improve all Royal Oak parks.
  • Remove the threat of selling any park or the Royal Oak Golf Course.
  • Preserve and support existing green space and green features.
  • Promote the greening and beautification of Woodward and other major corridors.

Preserve Tree City:

  • Stop allowing developers to cut down 100-year-old legacy trees marked for preservation in the site plan.
  • Incentivize developers to protect existing mature trees.

Public Meetings:

  • Shorten public meetings.
  • Provide meeting agendas several days in advance and avoid moving the date to counter civic participation.
  • Provide technology that enables citizens to show and project their own pre-approved images (similar to what the city of Novi does.)

Ethical Government:

  • Strengthen Royal Oak’s ethics ordinance and disclosure requirements so that campaign donations never lead to rubber stamped approvals.
  • Listen to and collaborate with resident input so that the best solutions surface.
